Buffalo's First & Only Polish Food Truck

The story of two girls, a dream, and a killer recipe for pierogi...

Dana Szczepaniak

Dana is a former Manhattan CPA and Polish gal. Her grandmother, Anna, was born in Poland and survived WWII on German occupied land. Anna had three daughters in a German camp for displaced Poles after the war, and made the journey to America in 1952. In America, Anna found pleasure and comfort in making traditional Polish food, especially pierogi. Her family half-joked that Anna should open a pierogi stand though she never did. In an effort to bring her grandmother’s American Dream to life, as well as her own vision to contribute to Buffalo’s redevelopment, Dana left NYC behind for Betty Crockski. Though she never imagined leaving her corporate career, she also never imagined a more fulfilling career change.

Kate Hey

Kate is a former marketing guru and serial restaurant industry gal. She got a Big Girl Job after college, but constantly missed the service life. Her family of restaurateurs and passionate chefs only amplified her longing to return to the industry.  Her grandmother, uncle and great-grandfather were the proprietors of Carl Meyer's Hof, a Buffalo instituion for nearly fifty years, then years later, her aunt opened two successful restaurants in northern California. She was enamored by the stories from the Hof, often told at the stove as she learned to brown roux and clarify stock. Cooking, dining, hosting,

service, and the pleasure of food were bred into her, and after some years working in her "career", she finally stopped denying it and surrendered to Betty.

Betty is Born

Dana and Kate are cousins and friends since birth. In their twenties, the inanity of their professional lives pulled them into a fantasy world, one where they opened bars and restaurants and hotels and vacation tour companies and whiskey distilleries and pig farms and unicorn rescues. They were all pipe dreams until one day at a barbecue, the concept for Betty was born. They spoke of her often, they dreamt of her, and it was not long before they’d fallen in love. Prepare for a sprawling, epic romance, Buffalo, because it’s all for the love of Betty.
